Talk for Writing ✏️

We use the ‘Talk for Writing’ approach across the school to engage and motivate the children in writing. The approach, developed by the educational trainer and writer Pie Corbett, gives the children opportunities to learn texts off by heart, add actions for key words and recreate their own versions of a text. It has had a hugely positive impact on the children’s willingness and engagement with writing.

Some of the texts the children have learnt are:

  • Jack and the Beanstalk
  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
  • The Tiger who came to Tea
  • The Storm Whale in Winter
  • Room on the Broom
  • The Fox and the Star
  • The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark

…you may want to ask your child if they could retell any of them!
