Year R: Squirrel Class

Welcome to our Year R, Squirrel Class page

Class Teacher: Miss R Kerry

Support Staff: Miss D Mitchell

PE Days: Monday and Wednesday

In Squirrel class we are just beginning our exciting journey through Thorpe Acre Infant School. In our class we work hard on developing our understanding of ourselves and our feelings, making friendships, communicating effectively with others and learning rules and routines.

Please click on the link below for all the information on what we are learning about this half-term.

This week (11th November - 15th November)

Year R

In literacy we have been looking at people who help us. The children enjoyed being a 'veterinarian' and writing a list of patient names. We have also looked at what the Loughborough fair looked like in the past and what it looks like now.

In maths, the children have been learning about the '1 more' concept. The children talked about how the number becomes bigger when you add 1 more. We have also used the sentence stems '1 more than ... is ..'

(4th November - 8th November)

Year R

This week in Year R the children have been learning about Bonfire night in literacy. The children listened to a story about Guy Fawkes. We have looked at what people do to celebrate Bonfire night.

In maths, we have been learning about the numbers '4 and 5'. We have looked at different arrangements of the numbers and have had a go at subitising these amounts.

The children have really enjoyed making firework collage pictures out of tissue paper.

We have been very lucky to have a visit from the Loughborough Fire Station. The children got to see some of the equipment kept inside a fire engine and asked the Firefighters lots of questions about their job.

(28th October - 1st November)

Year R

The children in Reception have enjoyed a spooky-themed week.  They also attended their first whole school assembly!

(14th October - 18th October)

Year R

Literacy: The children have been learning about the season of Autumn. Each class learnt a different Autumn themed poem and performed it to the opposite class.

Maths: They have been learning about the composition of 1, 2 and 3.
