Welcome to our Year R, Squirrel Class page

Class Teacher: Miss R Kerry

Support Staff: Miss D Mitchell

PE Days: Monday and Wednesday

In Squirrel class we are just beginning our exciting journey through Thorpe Acre Infant School. In our class we work hard on developing our understanding of ourselves and our feelings, making friendships, communicating effectively with others and learning rules and routines.

Please click on the link below for all the information on what we are learning about this half-term.

This week (12th May 2025 - 16th May 2025)

In literacy we have been learning about our local area. We looked at a map of Thorpe Acre and found many familiar places on the map. We then went on a walk to Thorpe Acre Church and back to the school.

In maths, the children have learnt about subtraction. The children have started to understand that the number gets smaller when we subtract an amount. We have used 'First, next and then' stories to work out our subtraction sums.

(6th May 2025 - 8th May 2025)

In literacy we have been finding out about where food comes from. The children have looked at where food comes and have written instructions on how to make a fruit salad. The children followed their instructions, made their fruit salad and have eaten it!

In Maths the children have been adding by counting on. We have remembered to keep the bigger number in our head and count on from the bigger number.

(28th April 2025 - 2nd May 2025)

In Literacy, we have read the story 'Supertato'. The children have been using adjectives to describe their vegetable and have written sentences about it.

In Maths, we have been exploring how a shape can appear once it has been rotated. The children have also been rotating shapes to fill a given shape.
